The Therestock Video Process

by Pineriver

NigelBlackthorne asked me to put put together a video with The Voice Newspaper again like we had done with The Voice Commercial. I gladly accepted with just a basic script to follow that he provided.

About a week before the Therestock events I started experimenting with different fades and effects to blend the movie into a 60's type era ( I created these from scratch ).

I wanted it to have a feel of memories from the past and with some looking on history pages for help, since I was born about 20 years to late, I got the general feel of what people thought and what the atmosphere was back then. I collaborated effects onto mattes onto masks onto drawings until I was pleased enough with the results.

In the Therestock events I had asked some members from the vmist group to help me out, since there most definitely be lag under my slow poke internet connection that I currently have for huger events.

They did a great job with little assignments that I had assigned them, and it helped out allot. I raced from one event to another event that was listed in the activities pages trying to record as much as I could. In all we captured 318 video and picture files, around 2 hours and 30 minutes worth.

When it was time to film the intro, I had some really nice shots that I had planned and went over the night before.  We all gathered in the Motu Multiplex Theatre and then teleported to the intro places.

It took a while for me to bark out instructions on what I wanted to see done, but it turned out into some sweet scenes. These shots took us around 50 minutes to film which would be later squished down to 30 seconds in the beginning of the movie.

After all had been filmed, it was then time to sort through all the files, rename them, compress them to a faster speed, and place them in unique directories so that I could quickly identify and pull them out.  This process took a good half a day with a few system reboots and a couple servings of chili.

After this was accomplished, it was time to start the editing. As I went along editing, I got some interviews from the events hosts from Therestock who where more then happy to help me out.  Working on one computer while another was busy working on a preview, I quickly assembled the timeline and finished the effects necessary for the movie. In all, it took me a little over a week to put together and edit.

If you will look hard enough at the last shot you can see I had sped up the footage to fit the music at end  of the Love-In event which the 2 spotlights on stage move rapidly as the camera zooms out on the island.  I worked a good day trying to cover these objects by using photo deluxe and layers, I managed to cover most of it up at the ending but that's one of those shots where its too good not to use.

At the end of the video, I boggled my mind trying to fill in the rest of the ending theme music with something, I searched all the files again and couldn't come up with anything un till I just thought it would be cool to have the shot where The Voice crew were running down the hill again. So I did a bit of adjusting to the shot and it turned out great.

Thank you all of you that helped, it was joy to work on.
