Focus on Icedoll

by Archie

I believe in the potential of each and every member of There.” icedoll

I have known icedoll for quite a while in There. We have had long talks over hot blues drinks at the Inferno, played hoverpirates together, and discussed at length a variety of Thereian politics. “Ice” has served on the Member’s Advisory Board, and she is the proprietor of the World Wide Employment Agency. (Looking for a job? Want to earn some Therebucks? Look up the WWEA in the group listings and join up!)

Icedoll has an amazing record of kind and beneficial works in There. Not only that, she’s a real kick to hang around with! She’s almost always on the move, if not giving tours in There, she’s planning or playing, or setting out lobster traps to catch an occasional prizewinner…

Here are a few topical discussions we had when I recently interviewed icedoll:

[Archie] “I want to ask you for some of your thoughts on what is it that makes There ‘positive’ and fun? And about groups and activities you lead and support in There.”

[icedoll] ] “I think the beauty of There and "what makes it fun" is the fact we can make it anything we want it to be. I think the key to what makes it positive, is members taking the initiative. "What IT is that makes it" -in my view is the potential. It's easy to see the potential in the world There created but I also believe in the potential of each and every member of There.

As far as groups and activities I lead or participate in- the *why* of how it all started -had to do with trying to make something better than it was. Combine the excitement of potential and the desire to improve and the result is the answer to the “why” of what ever I do. I support anything which has potential in any way to benefit members or our There world.”

[Archie] “You were a member of the MAB and are still a major supporter of the success and enjoyment of There. Is There going in the right direction?”

[icedoll] “From my perspective I DO think There is going in the "right direction". As long as they continue to put one foot in front of the other they will continue to accomplish their goals and achieve the dream of a true metaverse. Not bad for a cynical idealist huh? :D

Don't get me wrong...I have been through every emotion possible here… I still have days when my buttons are pushed. When I get upset I look inward and therefore feel I grow (eventually) in challenges. Even if I am a total "victim" I am able to learn more about myself. But the thrill of the unknown, knowing we are ALL in uncharted waters, excites me and being a part of the history of the community of There is an experience I will always appreciate.”

[Archie] “Ok, perhaps you can tell me what some of YOUR fav activities (and/or events) are- I remember how much fun I had when you recently hosted the 'hill-slide into the lobster trap' for prizes! Another question is regarding how you see activities evolving in There. For myself, my in-world time is so erratic as I work different nights every week, I miss so many races and 'schedule dependant' activities.

What type of events do you find that work out well, in There?”

[icedoll] “That's a hard one. :) I like all types of events but usually find myself having the most fun doing things in world rather than in a zone. Games like Paintboard, Diving for Dollars and any spontaneous type game are always fun. Activities like exploring or cliff diving or riding in world on vehicles, taking advantage of member created ramps, stumbling across cool paz layouts or meeting new people are the type things that make There fun for me. "How I see activities in There"...again this is really hard for me to answer because I have the attention span of a gnat so for me any and ALL activities are viewed as a diversion more than anything. No matter how much I like playing/attending any event I can't see myself as one who would log in daily just to play/attend any one specific event type.

To answer what I think works well is also hard to do since organized events can have very different goals if you will. I mean if it's a social event, like a party, then people having fun meeting new people or chatting with old friends only works as well as the "fun" you had with others. The competitive events seem to be very popular types so I'd guess how well it works there is dependant on how challenged the competitors were...or if they won, lol.

Questing also seems to be, IMO, the most enduring as far as "works well" in the sense there are always members participating in them. I think the reason for this is due to the diversity of the quest available for members to choose from. How events are evolving...'hmm...guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh?”

Icedoll’s influence and presence in There has had profound effects on the state of the Thereian dream of a more perfect metaverse. The integrity of icedoll’s bonds through friendship, cooperation, kindness, and guidance to members new and old, well it just plain rocks! Thanks ice!
