BALI HAI IS ALIVE FOR THE
NEW YEAR
WITH THE VOICE'S NEW YEARS
PARTY
by Geea

Last Sunday afternoon, I sat at Frosty Ice Rink with
my good friend Nilla (no not Helper Nilla) just Nilla. We
have been in There since Beta and reflected on how things have changed since
last Christmas. What struck us was the decrease in planned social events,
especially during this holiday
season.
Last year there were events galore over the holiday week, Lucas and
Teara where running most of them. Winter formals to attend holiday
house decorating, designer holiday clothes contest. Funzones set up for
events. On New Years Eve there was a three time zone party covering
bringing in the New Year across the United States. We wondered where all
the social events have gone? Was it because the people running them were no
longer in game? Was it because there was little or no interest in social
events? We just didn’t know. What we missed most of all were the nightly
parties over at Bali Hai given by Club Insomnia, Charlotte and
DamienChaos. You always
knew during Beta closing out your night at Bali Hai would be fun. I logged
out from there on many a night. Now Bali Hai sits empty with few events
going on. A perfect place for a party. So why not? New Years is coming
and Bali Hai sits alone and empty.
I’m usually not one for throwing events. I have
only done it for staff
meetings and I had a small Christmas party at my house two weeks ago. So I
thought I would give it a shot. I wasn’t sure who would be around New Years
night so I booked it the night before and called it a Pre New Years Party.
I made it formal because hey, any excuse to get dressed up is a good one in
my book. I contacted Rush Hour Radio set up a live DJ and sent out the
invites and posted it in the paper. As I walked around Bali decorating it I
thought to myself what a great place and why is it so unused. Newbies
always stopped by during the nightly parties of days gone by and I like to
think that was part of the attraction of There. Skills are important to be
sure, but There is a social game and why not have more social events?
67
people popped into The Voice’s Pre New Years party. Lots of lag, lots of
block heads in the beginning, so I’m guessing blockheads mean a big turn
out. Yay! Once everyone settled in I relaxed a little to see people having
a good time, dancing and talking just like the old days. DamienChaos
who most affectionately call DC, held court at the upstairs bar and
never missed a beat. It was like we were all back in Beta once again. The
DJ, Yellowhat, even commented on the radio that he hadn’t seen Bali
that filled since Beta days. Rick Slick walked around without his
pants for a bit (sorry Rick couldn’t resist). Much to my surprise, I saw
Meret dancing on the bar, yes you read that correctly, Meret. I
even caught him downstairs dancing and he claimed to be testing a macro.
All in all I think it went well and it reminded me
what I liked best about There and why I stayed. The social events, the
parties and the dancing and the friends. I would like to do it again,
perhaps for Valentines Day. So thank you to all that attended the Voice’s
Pre New Years Party. Thank you to Rush Hour Radio and Yellowhat for
spinning the tunes and keeping the party going.
