What's New
From
Thursday 6/16/05 Beta
by Geea
Although there was no earth shattering changes mostly fixes and a few small
additions, The Voice thought we would list what happened in Thursday’s Beta
test for those of you who did not make it into Beta or read official
forums.
Therecam – This was my favorite. This feature would totally make my life
easier with the staff writers using this built in screenshot feature. You
have a choice of four sizes to take your pictures in and it will save your
pictures to a folder of your choice on your hard drive.
Explanations of all focus tests were copied directly out of official
forums.
Focus ThereCam
Now you don't have to struggle taking screenshots and pasting them into a
graphics program to save them. We have added a camera to the There Client!
The camera functions are accessible off the There menu. There -> ThereCam
Test:
Take Photo Now -> Your
first time using this menu it should ask you where you would like your
images stored. Once you have specified a directory, each time you select
this menu option your photos will be stored in that directory.
Photo Size -> You can change what size the stored image will be, including
the size of the image varying on your screen size.
Photo Album Location -> You can change the target directory at any time
using this menu option.
The Keyboard command for taking screenshots is: CTRL-Shift-C

Special Nerd Options:
These require that you know how to set There Environment Variables and spell
accurately. The idea here is to find the right sorts of things that people
might like to be able to do, and then promote the popular ones to a nice
interface, while leaving the geeky ones in env variables, or possibly a
second pane on thereTweaker.
Ooops... I guess there are only 2 I can mention today:
ThereCamUsePng -- values are 1 or 0, 1 means save as .png instead of .jpg
ThereCamPhotoQuality -- values are 0-100 (percent quality) for jpeg
compression. 100 is better looking, and huge. 0 means 'use default'
(these will return to default value each time you launch the client)
Focus Miscellaneous:
We have several small changes
to test:
1. Nametags - We have added another option on the Nametag Preferences
menu. (There -> Customize -> World -> Nametags) You can now select to have
No Nametags visible. This was especially requested by our movie making
community. Please test to ensure that all of the nametag options work.
2. ChangeMe - We resolved a bug in ChangeMe that affected a very limited
subsection of our members. Please do a few wardrobe changes just to ensure
that we haven't introduced any bugs to ChangeMe.
3. Event Invitation after Entry - We made some adjustments to the event
invitation system. Specifically, the bug where you continue to be invited to
'Go Now' to an event that you are already in. Create events, and invite your
friends. If anyone sees the behavior, please post:
* your Avatar Name
* the event id, the event time
* the Zone Name and Zone id.
(to get the id, right click on the information page for the event or zone,
select properties, copy the number at the end of the URL)
Focus Dice:
The physics on dice have been
adjusted to eliminate some odd behavior. They should no longer:
Stack
Bounce
Slide downhill (unless very steep... in which case they slide very slowly)
Avatars and Vehicles should: Bounce off of Dice
Avatars and Vehicles should not:
Get stuck on Dice. (more than on anything else, that is)
Focus Voice:
You've been saying it for
years, and we've heard you! We have made changes to the Voice system so that
if you have a 5.1 channel sound card, voice will now appear to come from the
proper location.
What to test (if you have a 5.1 channel sound card with all speakers
attached, including the center channel):
Set your Speakers to 5.1, and listen to nearby avatars speak, while you turn
in circles. Do the voices sound like they are coming from the correct
directions?
Note - If you have stereo speakers or headphones, and set your sound device
to 5.1 speakers, you will have problems hearing the person in front of you,
as their voice is directed to the center channel.
You should only tell windows you have 5.1 speakers, when you really do.
Otherwise Windows will play the voice on speakers which do not exist, which
will make it very hard to hear :-)
Focus Give/Lend:
We have resolved the bug that
when you give someone an item (Drink, Buggy, etc) the item remains in the
inventory of the giver as 'Not Yours' and in the inventory of the receiver
as 'On Loan to..'
Test:
Give of items transfers ownership and possession without retrieving items.
Trade of items transfers ownership and possession without retrieving items.
Lend still transfers possession of the item without transferring ownership.
