Tom Kortton’s Hits There.

By Geea

After two months in the making down to every detail every piece of Tom Kortton’s coffee shop arrived in world on Friday. What is Tom Kortton’s? Well it is Kortt’s There version of Tim Horton’s a popular coffee shop chain in Canada.  Kortt a proud Canadian and also addicted to Tim Horton’s coffee wanted to bring his rendition into There.  A few modifications, a few color changes, and of course a name change for There and Tom Kortton’s was born.

Currently the only copy of Tom Kortton’s is located in front of the Village Marketplace awaiting it’s grand opening on Saturday May 3, 2008.  So what is so special about Tom Kortton’s?  Many things are special about this coffee shop.  Much detail and planning was put into the creation and it’s like no other coffee shop you have ever seen in There.  The attention to detail is amazing and impressive.  Tom Kortton’s has an animated menu display, cake displays, donuts, take home coffee displays, and the drive through with an outdoor menu and you actually drive up to the window to get your order.  Tom Kortton’s also has fully equipped bathrooms for both men and woman.

Here in the states we have Starbucks in Canada its Tim Horton’s and every Canadian/therian that came for a visit this weekend was amazed at the detail and the likeness, they totally loved it.  But you don’t have to know Tim Horton’s to love Tom Kortton’s.

I sat down with Kortt over a cup of coffee to discuss his latest creation.

So why a coffee shop, and why Tom Kortton's?

A few months back I did a knickknack of a Coffee and donut, and being Canadian, and a frequent customer of Tim Horton's  http://www.timhortons.ca , I thought I'd name it as a parody of the coffee we Canadians know and love.  Of course It had to have my name in it ..Kortt in Kortton's  After I had done the coffee and donut I started to get this idea about doing a whole coffee shop of the same name.

How long did it take you to make it?

It's taken about two months to complete.  At first there were a few starts, stops, and deletes, but eventually I got on the right track and it started to come together.  I learned a lot doing this project, not only from my trial and error, but also from advice by a certain barefoot developer.

How may pieces are in the complete set?

There are 25 pieces in the whole set up.  Three of that number is multiples of certain items like the seating and parking lot objects.

Will this be for sale and how will it be sold?

Eventually it will be for sale. I plan to sell it as a franchise, so it will sell as a package deal, all 25 pieces for one price.  The reason for this is I want to maintain the integrity of the coffee shop as a whole, so it doesn't end up scattered around in several different builds.  I'd like to see the pieces stay together as it's meant to be.  At this time, I'm still trying to figure out how much the set will be.

Once the debut of Tom Kortton’s is done Tom Kortton’s will have a permanent home inside the Village Marketplace.  The Village is currently taking on structural changes and Tom Kortton’s will be a welcome addition.

There is one more thing I would like to cover in this article.  Kortt has risen to one of the great developers in There.  He started with clothes and taught himself gmax, with each project he surpasses his last.  A fact that is not widely known about Kortt is that he is legally blind.  The work he puts out is amazing and his disability does not stop him from creating what his mind’s eye sees.  This within itself is most impressive.  Well done Kortt you’re an inspiration for all inspiring designers and people with disabilities.  You’re a great example that anything is possible!

We will post the link of the grand opening as soon as we get it but if you would like a sneak peek just tp over to the Village Marketplace.
