There "Shine"
by SoftlyDreaming
Did
you ever notice how things shine? The warm sunny sparkle of a bright
new day. Moonshine on the water late at night. The paint job on that
brand new car.... that's how "There" is when you first arrive-
everything is exciting and new. You often experience addict behavior,
staying up late at night being absorbed with skilling or hanging out
with other Therians mindlessly chatting or playing cards. You can't
get enough, you need your fix and find yourself constantly checking
your there mail for invites....
When does the shine
wear off? When does There become just like any other virtual world and
on-line community? When do we look for something else or nothing at
all? For some it's when skilling is no longer necessary because they
have got their platinum skill up porta-zone. Then they just don't know
what to do anymore especially since they got most of their skills afk
anyway. For others it's when the people get to them, what is better
known as DRAMA, which everyone wants to avoid like the plague.
For a few people it's actually real issues- concerns of their virtual
voices not being heard within their on-line community. Especially
when their online community needs to make money to survive and there
are choices made that members can not agree with. For some it's
when their There commitments such as designing, owning clubhouses
and/or island guiding start to feel like pressure just like their real
life obligations.

Why am I talking about There "Shine" and the love and disappointment
we face in our virtual community? Because many Therians come to a
realization, some of my dear on-line friends too, that they need a
break from There. Granted sometimes it's not just in-world issues but
real life realities like having a baby or financial concerns that
cause many to take a break. I see it all the time from personal
friends, fellow island guides and yeah hey I've thought about it too.
Fortunately for us, most of these Therians take their breaks
temporarily and we get to see them again. So as I watch others take
their breaks...and wait eagerly to welcome them back.. I wonder how
long will that shine be there for me? When I ponder these questions I
think of all I've enjoyed in There and all I still want to experience.
I
guess like all little Therein girls I dream of my own There Wedding
some day with an avatar I truly love. I also have fantasies of my own
There clothing store in a place like the village market place, or even
owning my own neighborhood some day. I wanted a funzone with my own
team and I have even thought I'd love to teach at UOT. Plus the simple
things like the fact I haven't seen all of There or certain designs I
haven't tried.
Sometimes I think the shine we see is just in how we look at things.
Maybe things don't have to be new but just need to be looked at
differently. Sure we can all get caught up with what's wrong in There
or in life. But some of my best moments in There and in life where
just looking at some fabulous scenery with someone you truly like and
care for. Just going for a drive or a buggy ride having a party or an
event and just a few show up, but a close few, people and avies you
really care about. Or just jumping off avie sacrifices or some
other crazy high place in There (don't ask me why I love that sooo
much). So it's not so much about the skilling, the accomplishments,
the Drama...it's about the moments, the experience. Just like life
"There" is what you make it. So whether or not you notice the "Shine"
or not it's always There...sometimes you just have to remember to
look.

"Until next time...Keep dreaming! Love, Softly.
