Real Life Shouts Out
by

It's
Monday morning and I drag myself out of bed. The first thing I do is
rub my eyes and head over to the
coffee pot. I feel like I just can't wake up. Fortunately I don't need
to be to work at the museum until the afternoon. I turn on the
computer and IM my on-line boyfriend. I remember today is the day of
the Mike Wilson interview on the early show and the special call for
all the island guides to work the spawn areas like Fisher and Cosmo
Girl to help any new members who join as a direct result of the show.
Also I realize my new designs won't be available because of it.
I ask my bf "oh is that Mike Wilson thing over?" Explaining that I
haven't put in the required amount of IG service this month. "Nope,
just started" he says as he informs me he just got his assignment.
Not feeling up to much I ask him if I can work with him, "Sure", I log
in and he summons me to Paiz.

At first there is not
much action, I'm standing alone a new blond avatar approaches me. We
say "Hi" and I see from her profile she was just created so I ask her
if she saw the show. She says yes and I find out she is a young
college student in the US from Belgium. I show her how to add me to
her buddy list and she says she has a class to attend to and will log
in again later.

Wow... now I'm
excited. I talk in the guide IM about it and people share their
enthusiasm and commend my efforts. I like the spirit in the air...
people are getting excited about new people joining "There"- our home
away from home. Now it only gets better, I meet a couple of
others who saw the show and I also meet a really great guy whose
avatar is called Jdewolfe. What is impressing me about these new
avatars is there aptitude- these are really nice and intelligent
people who sincerely thank me for helping them. It is so satisfying. I
like Jdewolfe so much I take him to my clubhouse and let him drive me
around in my buggy. And then let him borrow one. He really thanks me
and goes on to explore more of There. You couldn't have a more perfect
day of island guiding, except that when I talk about it in the guide
IM and I ask if we can count it as a special event Josie herself
answers saying that is a good idea.
So
now I watch the early show broadcast and see for the first time what
Mike Wilson looks like. I love his enthusiasm it's so contagious. The
show focuses on 'Consumerism In A Digital Universe" and the fact that
in recent years, virtual worlds have generated millions of real
dollars for businesses. Bill Whitaker reports on companies that pour
money into creating brand loyalty in an on-line world like There. Mike
Wilson helps Bill (with his avatar that looks just like him) to visit
Coke studios, Cosmo girl, and Toyota scion explaining the benefits
these groups receive in There. And as he's explaining to Bill about
the parties at scion I see my friend Zayden walk by!
What
a positive view of There. The interview ends with all the members of
the early show morning team seeing their avatars dancing in Scion and
they love it! They laugh about their dance moves and how they "raise
the roof". I just want to say thank you to the Early Morning Show for
the nice shout out and to Mike Wilson for giving me such great great
memories in There.
