What
keeps people coming back to play spades in There night after night?
Why are some so passionate to play for hours and hours? Why do they
look for the perfect place to play? While I was sitting in a spades
game at the largest spades club in There, the Spinning Spades Club
with 1102 members respectively, I randomly asked who here is addicted
to spades an immediately three players said "me" and then I wanted to
know what they enjoy about playing spades and they were all very happy
to be quoted and interviewed. Here are their stories:
LovingEveryMin
has been
playing spades in There for 3 years
on her first avatar and 2 years on her current avatar. She says she is
so addicted and passionate that on her first avatar she actually
played all 4 seats and beat herself at a game! (At that another player
pointed out that she also lost lol.) Loving enjoys spades because it
makes her think, she likes the challenge. Her first card game was at
Papabears' old club on Tyr. She actually played spades in "real life"
before playing virtually in There. To Loving spades is "better then
standing on Duda Beach with all the drama".
BeenTheir
says
it's more than just spades. It's about the people. Getting to know
others enjoying their conversations, being with them. He enjoys
playing every night with people from around the world. That's what has
brought him to SSC every night to play spades for the past 8 months.
(At this point SSC owner Percy spoke up to explain BeenTheir is often
mistaken for furniture.) He says before There he played Euchre, which
dealt with tricks and trumps, so he easily picked up on spades in
world. He was summoned by a friend to a private residence to play for
his first game. Spades gives him a chance to enjoy all types of
personalities. I observed his passion for spades and his dedication to
the game encouraging other players to remain to finish the game even
if their Mom tells them to brush their teeth and go to bed. He remarks
as soon as the game is over you can go to bed...
xXRockStarDudeXx has
been playing spades for a few weeks
and is already addicted. Because of his youth the Spinning Spades Club
owner reminds others to "watch their language" and they happily do so.
Most people love Spinning Spades because rules are enforced that help
every one feel comfortable and safe from Drama and griefers. His first
game was at a welcome event with There Greeters and Island Guides and
he picked up fast. He says spades keeps him "on the edge of his seat!"
He feels spades is easy for him. At first his Mom said he had to go to
bed but she let him finish the game, after he brushed his teeth of
course.
The
event being held at the time was by BeenTheir and he simply
called it "Spades" and when I asked the group about the events they
have held they all got excited and thought about holding a spades
tournament and what prizes and rules they would follow. As the evening
went on the conversation took many turns and different avatars came
and left but they all shared their passion and the addiction to spades
that keeps bringing them all together.
