The Voice Spotlight: Davesmeg by Softly Dreaming
The Voice Spotlight highlights members of There and what they love about their virtual world. This week I had the privilege of hearing from Davesmeg. Davesmeg says: I joined There.com on February 21st 2007 at 3:48pm GMT, after a google search for virtual worlds. I'd spent some time the week before in that other place, sticking to "clean" area but still being propositioned to 'cyber' at least 3 times an hour. :O The name I have chosen for my on-line self comes from my first name combined with a word from my favorite TV show, Red Dwarf. Coincidentally, it is also the name of a white goods manufacturer. It is not linked to the medical definition. I spent my first day on Zona and added 1 person to my buddy list. Logged out after about an hour and a half.
Next day I
chanced upon Nene's Cauldron where some people were having a Over the next few days, I got to know the people hosting there and became quite good friends. On 7th March 2007 I wandered into Nene's with my usual greeting, walked up to the platform where everyone was and gave them a surprise. I had bought premium membership. 'yay I soon found out about the compass add-on from Thumdar.com. Downloaded it and gave it a try. I used it all the time to start with as I had no idea where anywhere was in the There-world, but as my knowledge of the islands has grown, my need for the compass has diminished. I still use it for some things, but it is no longer a permanent fixture on my screen. :D I am a forum junkie and visit as many as I can.. When I found out Thumdar had a forum, I jumped to sign up and been visiting near enough every day since. It was a shock and an honour when Thumdar made me a moderator of the boards. The friends I made at Nene's were invited to become Island Guides. When the positions became available for members to sign up, those same friends suggested I should sign up. Some umming and ahhing later, I signed up when I had gained the relevant skill levels. My avatar was only about 3 months old at the time so I was still quite wet behind the ears. I really do enjoy being a guide, meeting new people and helping them learn just how great a world There is. But since My wife left me for someone else, I don't have quite as much time to spend in-world as I did. I also enjoy designing, but most of the items I make now are commission for other members. I currently have 5 clubs that I started. One is my co-hosting group, the rest are all things that interest me. Since my first avatar, I have created at least 5 more and made 3 premium.
I try and get
as many people to sign up for There.com as I can, as I believe it
is the best virtual world going. I have tried several in the past,
but There.com has the right balance of freedom, support,
technology and warmth. I even put the software and some links (including Thumdar.com) on to CDs and hand them out. :D If you have never visited a virtual world before, There.com is a real eye opener and a wonderful place to be. How many other virtual worlds are there where the CEO gets personally involved, to the point of seeing how long he can last before he gets paint-balled to death?
