In The Hood by Ant1977
This week is the start of a new column in "The Voice of There" or a rebirth of an old column that was once here. I spent few hours the other night bouncing from island to island off the southeast coast of Aurora and found one beautiful neighborhood that I just knew had to be written about. Hanalei Cay's is a beautifully constructed 5 island hood. The name intrigued me enough to actually look it up online...lol
Anyways I toured around the neighborhood and found the owner Synny chatting with one of her newest tenants so I didn't want to interrupt them. I came back a few hours later and was able to chat a little with Synny. :o)
Ant1977: When you first purchased this group of islands did you know exactly what you were going to build? Synny:
I actually did not buy this hood, a very good friend of mine, Pittstop
had his eye on this one of a kind property since it was first built
and placed in auctions by There.com,
however the bid for this NH had skyrocketed to over 2 million tbux and
completely out of our reach. Less than a year later the hood was in
auctions for sale for about the same price but no one touched it,
several weeks later it was back in auctions and again no one took it.
Then one day last year in early July 09 Pitt came to me asking if
I wanted to go in half's with him on it, well I owned a nice little 45
acre and wasn't really trying to own 2 hoods so I passed on it. Day
after day for almost a week Pitt asked me and I declined, then one
morning he came to me and said "Synny I want to show you
something" and summoned me to the NH. As I looked around I became
inspired, making comments on the NH like, if I owned this I'd do this
n that.. Pitt said to me "Synny, I bought the hood" I turned
and my jaw dropped, I was like, are you serious? Pitt said "Synny,
if you let me put my home here in the spot that I want and let me stay
I will give you the hood free and clear, not only will I give it to
you but I will help with all cost for the first few months until
you get it going". I was flabbergasted, Pitt said "if anyone
knows what to do with this hood it's you and I know you can make it
work"..how could I resist, I said yes and that is how I came to
own the only 5 island chain in There. Thanks to Pittstop and his
persistence! The name of Hanalei Cay's actually comes from a real life
resort in Hawaii called Hanalei
Bay Resorts which is what I consider my hood to be, elegant
resort living. I call it Cay's because Cay's are a group of islands.
Ant1977: How long have you been working on the Hanalei Cay's hood?
Synny: This hood is a labor of love and is being worked on everyday, I have no custom pieces in it, everything I have is out of auctions, so as the designer's make it, I put it together. Sometimes things don't go as fast as I'd like due to the lack of item's in auctions but when I get a vision I will make what we do have work! Ant1977: What goals do you hope to achieve here in the future? Synny: My main goal is to make an eye appealing, functional, interactive hood for my fellow Thearians to enjoy. It's very difficult to make things interactive in There, we can only play so many rounds of cards, buggy bash, race, jump, doggy skill, paintball or explore so many times before we get bored, so I try to give people a little more variety with what we do have aside from the before mentioned. When you come to Hanalei Cay's and you see a waterfall, it's also more than just that, try going up that waterfall, you may find a secret area, go between the rocks and you might find a panther ready to pounce you, hoverboard through the redwoods and mingle with a giraffe, enter a door in a rock and find an aquarium or movie theater that has a link to real time streaming movies. Because the hood is ever evolving you never know what you will find at any given time, the future is always filled with the unknown at Hanalei but I grant you this, it will always be beautiful, different and exciting. Ant1977: You did a beautiful build with the Oceanarium exhibit, where did that vision come from?
Synny: I believe if you want foot traffic or exposure you need a main attraction, and that is what the Oceanarium is for me, I have a habit of creating big attractions that are unlike those you have ever seen. I was on the web one night buying tickets for my family to go to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and as I was looking on the website I thought, hmm, I bet I can do that in game LOL and as soon as I got my tickets I signed into auctions and began doing an extensive search! The hardest part was figuring out what to place it all in that kept it dark and yet natural, but that all worked out and the Oceanarium is the end result. I'd like to thank Synny for allowing me to speak with her and for taking the time to answer my inquiries of her beautiful neighborhood!
