A Sad Farewell

This evening at 11:59 pst There will shut down for good and for many of us it is truly a sad day.  I have spent the past seven years calling There my virtual home and the past six years with this newspaper.  While it is true I have spent less time in There since the summer because of my job, I always knew There was there for me when I had time to log in.  I don’t know how I will feel tomorrow morning when I wake up and know I can no longer log into There anymore.  I guess many of you feel the same.

While many of us will use this day to say goodbye and to take in as much of There as we can and I will surely do the same.   I did want to answer some questions that have been sent to me since the announcement.

Will you continue the Voice for a different Virtual World?

I will not.  The Voice was created for There.

How long will the Voice be up after There closes?

The Voice will be up for a while I am working on getting all the archives together so the Voice can be read in its entirety for the whole six years of articles we have done.  Eventually I will close the site down but Thumdar has offered to have a Voice Section on Thumdar.com .  So The Voice will not be lost forever.

Are you moving to another virtual world?

While I have always had avatars in other virtual worlds as a designer, I guess I will pop into some of those worlds from time to time but right now I have no plans to call any place home virtually.

In closing I would like to thank the many readers of the Voice for the kind emails and pictures of the week over the years.    I even thank all those who criticized us over the years because we weren’t hard hitting enough – at least we got your attention and that’s what we strived for :)

I thank the staff of There especially Alex, Vash and Sonblock who included us when they didn’t have to.  Who always remembered the Voice and gave us the scoops when they could.  Who recognize us for our hard work and dedication.  I will miss you dearly.

I would also like to thank all the writers of the Voice past and present.  There were times we should of shut down and there was always one writer who said no please don’t, and I didn’t and we kept on going whether we had 10 writers or 2.  We kept on it wasn’t easy, it was stressful, but we were more than words and we loved There and we did it.  We were and always shall be the longest running virtual newspaper for There.com and for that we are proud.

We were The Voice of There but without There we no longer have anything to say.

Much Love
Geea
