Thumdar THERE

Thumdar.com has been for over five years (since April 17th 2004) a fan site for There. It started out with just six pages of links and down-loads for our virtual world. The site and the avatar became famous for patches, and the links to the bedican compass. To quote Thumdar "For 2 months I explored There and was constantly discovering things designers were creating, from great clothing to 3d objects. Creativity everywhere! I was in heaven! So.., I thought, "What am I going to do to add to this world?". The answer was obvious...

Through my friend aztec3, I had met Bedicus who had created a very cool hack of the There compass called the "Bedican Compass". That was just too cool. Also, other people like Korrupt were creating hacks of the There emotionsbar and yet others creating patches for items in world. So ~ why not put them all on one page?" Since then Thumdar has worked very hard on his site.

 

In June 2007 people could become members of Thumdar.com and now it has reached 7000 members! Thumdar Twitters! But for me the most amazing part of Thumdar.com is it's community. It is not just a site of downloads and patches anymore it's a place where people connect about our virtual world. Just the other day I couldn't sleep and I went to Thumdar and spoke my mind about the Mab ending, technology, etc. I even read other members blogs and commented it was a release.... Thumdar makes the site personal. he's active in the forums, reads the blogs (even commenting), encouraging members to speak their minds.

 

Some members are there just to get their music heard, others blog, make galleries and albums. Thumdar even features a member each month in his Member Showcase. Other members post on the featured profile with kudos and congratulations. If There.com is our virtual home- Thumdar.com is our virtual best friend, our home away from home.

What spurred me on to write about this great site? Dalriada held a Meet Thumdar in There gathering for all Thumdar members. At first the invite was invitation only then expanded with Thumdar claiming everyone was a VIP. The Thumdar forums contained new posts everyday with anticipation for the upcoming event. AT first I thought I couldn't make it and members including Thumdar expressed encouraging sentiments about a possible future one. But I got out of work early!!! I actually made it to one of the There gatherings I was truly looking forward to. When I got to the party it had such a nice feel. People were really mingling, seeing old avatars they hadn't seen in a while. I was in a group and really enjoying myself, but I really wanted to meet Thumdar. I had to excuse myself and break away to meet the avatar behind the site. Funny, I just wanted to hear his voice. When I got to him we typed. Which was cool but...I asked are you using voice? After that he did and at first I couldn't hear him with all the other voices at the party lol. Eventually I did and I've got to say it was amazing.

 

I even got to meet Thumdar's love Sahaya. Her avatar was beautiful and dressed in Thumdar's designs. Thumdar said that this type of thing (a meet and greet party) wasn't usually his thing but he was having a great time. It was a great time. It brought us Thumdar members and There.com members together. We could see the avatars we connect to. Thumdar and Sahaya helped me get great pictures, which didn't come out( my camera was configured wrong), I was sooo sad. But just being at the gathering and meeting Thumdar and his members put pictures in my mind I'll never forget.
