Thankfulness

by Archie

And this Archie Explorers article, we take a look at the concept of thankfulness. Gratitude is what this world seems to have a shortage of.  Certainly, there is plenty in the world to complain about, and like well-trained animals most of us do an excellent job of grousing about the problems in our own lives and in the world at large.

I’m not saying it’s such a terrible thing, as it is often just a way to think out loud and is not meant to be a drag on others.  But, no one can argue that a little gratitude can go a long way.

Let’s break this down.

Starting with the most fundamental.  Being born for instance, is a pretty good start.  Having a universe, stars, planets, um… the Earth, it may seem obvious, but that’s a great place to start. Let’s see, some more fundamental ideas such as air to breathe, and water to drink, well, …duh! But, why not? I imagine it would be quite upsetting to take any one of these away.

More examples

Skaters are thankful for concrete. Businesses are thankful for customers.  Customers are thankful for fair prices. Sometimes a touch of gratitude is just something that is not a big deal, but simply something that’s there for a moment. You may be carrying an arm full of packages into the post office and someone holds the door for you for just a moment, and you say “Thanks.  Thanks a lot!” And the person who offered the kindness returns your smile. This kind of thankfulness is small, but can really make life more livable.

These are just some of the small benefits of a civilized society.  Sure, we get may get some kicks from watching movies intended to scare us and shock us, just for entertainment. However, in our own personal reality we can be thankful for any measure of stability and relative security.

There.com is designed to be a non-threatening environment. Of course, this can be said, I suppose, about any computer “game” platform, because no matter what the sound and images are on your screen, you can sit there and zap things, and blow-up stuff up from the relative safety of your computer. And, when a person finally gets tired of their violent fantasies, There.com is standing by as an outlet for real creativity.

And that, is something to be thankful for.

Safe Travels,

Archie
