Spending Meret's Money

On Another Guy

Shopping Fazz's Way

I've had the pleasure of obtaining several of Kortt's designs and developer objects in world.  Kortt has done many wonderful things in THERE and I thought it would be nice for all of you to hear from this designer/developer first hand.....I had to SPEND MERET'S MONEY to get this out to all of YOU....after all, buying an interview isn't CHEAP....:)....Let's hear from the avie himself, shall we...........

When did you join THERE and how did you hear about THERE?

Kortt:  I was born on August 13, 2005.  I had been involved in other virtual worlds before There.com for quite a while, a couple being Active  Worlds and Cybernet Worlds.  I was searching around for other 3D worlds and ran across There in some search results and decided to check it out.  I remember There was having a "Summer Special" on  signups, so I did a 7 day trial and got hooked, and bought a $29.95 membership as soon as the trail ended.

What made you get into designing and developing?

Kortt:  I had been doing web design for years before finding There and had done some retexturing of basic models in Active Worlds so was familiar with the various graphics editors.  When I first came to There I  learned about the Developer program and how we could put custom content into game and thought this was a natural route for me to take. I initially just wanted to make stuff for myself, and it grew into a desire to make my avatar self sufficient in world, that is, not having to buy Therebucks.  Seems to be working so far. :)

Who, if anyone did you receive help from when you needed help?

Kortt:  The first person who had items in world that I met was G_mon_420.  While he didn't actually give me any technical help, he did shed light on how the process worked, such as how the auction system worked and  the submission process.  The first monetary help I got was from SAM420 who urged me to list things in Front Page Auctions when I could and would sponsor my items on Front Page.  Sam was a huge help at the beginning and remains as one of my best friends and is always a great encouragement. When I started painting buggies, ZachC was running a showcase event on a weekly basic at Seattle.  I gained a lot out of our conversations back then, and I still get lots of inspiration from Zach.

In December of '06 I started building 3d objects after taking Mr. Vercetti's gmax class.  Shortly after that I met Carcus and of course, began pestering him with questions.  I owe much of what I've accomplished in 3d building to him (Thanks CarCus!).  There are a few others who have given me great advice and helped me along the way in building, such as Meret and SassyBeMe as well.

Would you say, you enjoy designing clothing or developing more?

Kortt:  I would say at this stage I enjoy 3d modeling the most out of the two, but I do enjoy doing both. Now if we could get There to let us combine the two...that would be great!

Is there one favorite outfit or developing item you have made that is very special to
you?  Why is it your favorite?

Kortt:  I think my favorite clothing items (that I've done) are the KORTT Open Front Shirt and the Weevi's Super Faded Jeans.  Probably because it's at the top of my saved looksets and is handy :p  I must say though that most of my favorite Tshirts have been made by Mariesa!  I think my favorite 3d item is the Theremos Gas Grille.  I love to BBQ in real life so lets throw some steaks on the barby! Right now my favorite pet project is the KORTT Stage items.  I've been having a lot of fun building them.  They will be used at Ourstock 07 for the stage setup.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of designing
clothing or developing?

Kortt:  The first thing I would tell them is to do it for fun first.  Don't approach it as a get rich scheme.  If you do start to gain a measure of success then at least you know you've enjoyed the trip you took to  get there.  The second thing I would say is Don't Give Up!  Take a break for a while if you get frustrated but don't give up on it.  The third thing is....don't take other designers textures.  If you can't paint your own textures then take a class, take the time to practice , but please don't take others work.

Anything else you may wish to add in closing of our interview?

I want to take the opportunity to thank those who buy and use my items.  You guys rock!  I also want to thank the usual suspects who give me much inspiration (you know who you are), and thank you Fazzy ,  it was a pleasure being interviewed by you!

Fazzy:  With all of that said.....I would just like to thank Kortt for making such sexy looking men's shirts...'wink....if I could get Meret out of his sweaters, he just might look almost as sexy as you do in the Open Front shirt....:)

Many of you're friends enjoy spending time around the pool you made and I especially like the "Cuddletube"....nothing like getting up-close and personal when a reporter has the opportunity :)

Thank you Kortt, and I wish you continued success with all your designer/developer items.....keep em coming....:)
