The Heat is On!

By Nyllone

Yes, fellow Thereians!  There Summer Games has begun.  Not like you wouldn’t notice.  First signs that it’s drawing near were the Nametag Signs strategically placed at the spawns to entice members, newbies and oldbies alike, to join and support their nametag teams.  This time, there’s no excuse in joining the wrong team, as the new sign is equipped to help you know your Nametag Team.  If you click on the action tag that says “Say Color”, you will actually say your color.

Another sign that prepares you for the Summer Games was the ThereGame Invites from different Official Team Avies.  Although I noticed, unlike Winter ThereGames, we now have fewer events to go to help our teams.  I personally was looking for more quests in my time zone, because that’s where I could somehow help my team, but it’s not as many as the past ThereGames.  Or so I think.

But good news for people who wanted to skill up for Summer Games!  There are lots of events to go to socialize and skill up to get that “Champion 2009 There Summer Games” in your profile.  These Skill-Up-Only events are the events wherein attendees won’t gain points for their teams but would gain skill points for themselves.  This may have pros and cons, as discussed in the forums.  It would help lessen the lag in events that count, but at the same time, it defeats the purpose of ThereGames as there’s no team work required.  Having gone through several Skill-Up Events, I think it’s cool.  I get to see more of the people I don’t even get to see on a regular ThereDay, make new friends especially the ones I regularly bump into one event after another, and still have fun.

On the First Day of ThereGames, I went to a Party hosted by good friend Yozh.  It was fun dancing, meeting new people, and making new friends.  Right into the party, _AngelKisses announced on IM that we could claim our ThereGames Shirt and free Coca Cola in can in ThereGames Welcome Center.  So after the event, off I went to check it out.

I teleported to a place full of members, all excited to get started.  All waiting for the official opening.  All chatting, drinking, meeting up with friends.  I must admit I went AFK for a bit, lag was taking its toll on me.  I thought it was best to not move.  I took my sweet time checking out more events to sign up for, wearing my new ThereGames Participant Tee, and holding a can of Coca Cola.

The following days proved to be very enjoyable, despite the lag.  I’ve been to one event after another, hoping somehow my presence and effort count for Team Pink.  I went to GinStars, and won a game.  I went to Soccer Track, and finished the track.  I went to Good Morning Chat wherein I got to hear members talk about their ThereGames stories and updates.

I went to a Hoverboarding Event, thinking I could at least try.  But I ended up lapping upside down.  Come on!  Lag was horrible.  Um, ok ok!  Maybe I should also admit that I was horrible in Hoverboard as well huh?  I went to more Skill-Ups and had fun watching myself do what the emoter was doing at Club Echo.

Yes, ThereGames will always have issues like lag, never-ending waiting list, and hot heads here and there.  But come to think of it, add up heat, fun and lag, and you got yourself There Summer Games.  Sign up, be counted, or at least have fun!

See you there.
