Simple House In There by Nyllone
After thinking many times over, I decided to rent a There Home (a clubhouse, actually). I wanted to relate to what people have been talking about regarding “drops” and “nudge”. I have been asked many times by a new member on how to acquire a house, and though I know what to answer, I don’t feel like I am qualified to teach them when I haven’t experienced it for myself. I thought the best way to be able to do that is to try it out until I can confidently understand and explain what I am talking about.
I first scouted for a house for rent by
The moment I decided to rent a house, I prepared myself for broke. I cannot just have an empty house. I would have to have some things in it. Sure I could use some of the skill rewards I got, but... That’s when I started browsing auctions. It took me eight months in world to finally click that Home and Garden Category. I tried so many items one after the other, impulsively clicking buy at some point but after seeing a better one, regretted the fact that I couldn’t wait. What was that they say about women when shopping? Either impulsive or fickle-minded. I guess, I am both.
Browsing through Shop Central and the auctions proved to be more difficult than finding the house I like. I had to think of a theme for the house, and the colors and furniture must coordinate. Most importantly, I have to consider my budget. Then again, I would still end up really liking one thing, but not using it because it didn’t match. Or forcing it in and use the word “contrast” as an excuse. My status would automatically go “Z” for hours on end just browsing through items I could use in the house, and still go unsatisfied. Sometimes, there’s a specific color I want on a specific thing, but it’s just not there. When my Tbucks started dwindling down, I thought I need to restrain myself from browsing. Lest I go on shopping spree again.
I showed my work in progress to Phonk, who suggested some things, which I followed, to make the house look better. The house looks decent enough now, although still kinda bare. And I have just found the nudge keys on my laptop (fn and ; and fn and / worked for me!) after a week of pressing fn with almost all other keys. (Thanks to the forums for that!) I am now able to appreciate the drops they were talking about. But since I only have a few furniture lying around, I got some more drops left. (Which to most people means gold. ‘Hmmm... If only I could auction off a drop..)
After a long There day, I would come home to retire. Instead of logging out though, I would get the urge to browse auctions again. But the frustration of finding a specific item and the lack of funds, brought me to another idea.
What do I say when a new member ask “How do I earn Tbucks?” I say join clubs to get invites to events that give out Tbucks as prizes or “You can upgrade to Premium and become a designer.” Then a usual follow up question goes, “How do I become a designer?”
Lately, I started reading the forum threads on the Developer Program, downloading the tools needed, clicking links to tutorials, and fiddling away. Now, I want to answer THAT question by trying it out for myself.
Could it be that the lady is me in the photograph? ‘nod The Sundial: my first freestanding wall hanging.
