This last Saturday, March 4, I was invited to participate in the Hurricane Bay Rare Buggy Show. It was scheduled to from 11:00am to 5:00pm, pst. The setting was truly beautiful. The Hurricane Bay Community has set up an incredible “boardwalk” area that’s perfect for shows like this. At one end was a grassy park like area set up like a true concours d’elegance. That was where I found the Hurricane Bay Fire Buggy parked with the Hurricane Bay sign on the hill behind it. Very Hollywood. The only problems encountered were a bit of lag for some, and the buggies kept returning to inventory after they’d been out for about an hour.
Kevin25a, ever the gracious host, made sure vehicles were turned on every 45 minutes so the people displaying could jump in them and “reset the clocks”. The visitors were awesome and not a single buggy was picked up during these reset periods. Kevin allowed anyone who wanted to drop buggies. He even let a newbie drop a level up buggy, so you can see it was an eclectic collection. Buggies ranged from rare old collectibles to those currently available in auctions. There was a Syperbytez ‘57 Bel Air which was originally limited to 30 and sold out long ago. With attrition due to closed and inactive accounts there are probably far fewer than that now.
ZMW was also well represented. Many current models were on display by various collectors, as well as some rare old ones including the very first limited edition from ZMW, the white GT 350. It was limited to 5 copies. At this printing I can only account for 4 of them.
Of course no rare buggy show would be complete without a one seater. A fine example was parked right in the middle of the boardwalk In addition there was also a rare stubby buggy. Kevin told me that there will be many events at this neighborhood, including more buggy shows. He expects that we can see them every other week. If you’re interested in participating or checking out some great buggies, drop him a theremail for a schedule of upcoming events.
