The Power Within Me

The power within me lies to others unseen

eyes cannot find it  

nor see where it has been 

The power within me is often misunderstood

those who are near me

not seeing the good 

The power within me lies tranquil and serene

waiting to be needed

it's patience so keen 

The power within me may seem oh so weak

my lips may not utter

what those around me would speak

The power within me comes not from hate

it may often be tempted

but it can recognize the bait

The power within me may just seem like fluff

yet no one can tell me

when I have had enough

The power within me is strengthened by hope

only I can ever know

with just what I cannot cope

The power within me is of shadow and light

defining each other

sometimes dark, now bright

The power within me will never be yours

it cannot breathe for you

nor give strength for your chores

The power within me is there to forgive

it is only for me

to decide, as long as I live

The power within me that is there for love

will always be stronger

than any push, any shove

The power within me is not there to bring hurts

it is there to help

though it may come in spurts

The power within me is not for you to understand

it is not bound by feet

it soars above all land

The power within me may not be as yours

what is right for me

may never settle your scores

The power within me cares not for greed

it cares not for status

those are not what it needs

The power within me is nourished by love

I can only trust it

to help me rise above

The power within me does not need wings

it carries me always

and lifts my soul as it sings
